Seneca question ........

Today I noticed on a new Seneca at our airport there are trim
tabs on the flaps. I'd never seen this before. What exactly
are those for? They were bent down so as to force the
flaps up.

Trim tabs like that on the rudder of a 172?
 
Maybe they keep the flaps from rattling when they're stowed ... ?
 
They improve lateral stability during climbs at max takeoff power. More surface area. Bet they were right behind the engine? ;)
