Might want to stay clear of this one for more than the violation avoidance...

Damn those nuclear power plants... :)

formic acid leak does not sound pleasant.

why on earth would either need to have formic acid on hand? Surely they do not generate it?

New fuel cells maybe?

Or...it is a common limescale remover - and the water in that area of the country sure has a lot of "lime" in it. If they are using a lot of cooling towers/pipes at the plant then Formic Acid might be used as one of the agents to keep them clean.

>>BELOW 10000 FEET AGL WITHIN A 13 NAUTICAL MILE RADIUS<<

I don't know what the terrain down there looks like, but I'm assuming thet Savannah River isn't that high.

Has anyone else noticed that that's a large airspace to close for an acid leak? Formic acid is nasty- it's the active compound in ant stings. It's close to glacial acetic acid, or a little less than hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid) in acidity. Do they close such a large volume of arspace when a train or truck with these acids overturn?
