Yesterday Matt Michael and I rented the 182RG from my FBO and flew to my hometown. Mission was to eliminate dead tree branches around my parents house. Matt is a professional tree trimmer but doesnt go for those sissy bucket trucks. Thats right folks, we have the missing link on our hands! Watching him climb trees brought the following response from my little sister:

"He really is like a monkey"

Anyway we had quite a lot of fun. The flight up was great, good tailwinds had us there in only 40 minutes. Its a 2 hr 45 minute drive! (ask Chris Jones!). Tree work was completed in the afternoon with Matt doing all the climbing and cutting and me gazing on dumbstruck and occasionally moving a ladder or rope. Lunch was served by my family, we enjoyed some pizza from my dads restaurant for supper, had a couple made to bring home and were in the air by 9 pm. Flight back was not too bad, we climbed high to avoid headwinds and enjoyed good speed and excellent visibility. Since matt is now a private pilot i let him do all the work, just piping in every now and then to remind him to lift/lower gear and suggest manifold pressure and prop settings. Matt bumbled through filing a PIREP and then got us throught the stadium TFR at Ames with no problems. It was cool to see the stadium lit up for a night game. Of course Nebraska kicked Iowa State's butt but I was expecting that. Unfortunately my camera wasnt handy so no pictures of Hilton Coliseum at night :( I did get some pictures of Matt being a monkey-man though so check these out!

Yes.. It is a FULL 2hr 45min drive to Tony's parents' place! Especially when pulling a glider trailer on backroads that you've never been on before! Gotta love a 40 min flight instead!

Unsure where I saw this but I think it might have been one of the little features in the front section of Air & Space years ago. There were photos of the dog and the soldiers.

Origin of the term geronimo. Hmm nice story but apocrophyl. But there is no agreement on its origins that I can find. I cannot find any story about a dog at all.
