If you're like me you're carrying an extra pound or two of AA batteries for use in case of emergency. I just rediscovered a 24 pack of AA Energizer I had in my "survival bag."
I use AA Alkalines 8 at a time in my Garmin GPSMAP 295, which thankfully usually runs on ship's power.
It only runs for 2-4 hours on batteries. I use 6 at once in my Yeasu radio. The Yeasu came with a rechargeable Ni-Cad, which like about all Ni-Cad devices I own was perpetually and and nearly permanently discharged.
Here's a review of the new Panasonic Oxyride batteries which are claimed to last nearly twice as long as Alkalines and cost less.
I need to know how the shelf life compares before I throw those in the survival bag.
