Insurance...we all (well, owners do, and really really suggested for renters...) need it. There was, IIRC, some discussion earlier this year about renewal prices.
Just a data point: 1969 C172K, Comm/CFI/2K hours, 1300 in type, 125 in last year. 45K hull value (mostly because of the avionics), open pilot is 300 TT, 25 in type. 1M limit, 100K per passenger (I don't normally take passengers other than the SO; last time I took a non-pilot, non-relative passenger was back at the millennium roll-over)...renewal was $0.00 more than last year.
So...moral of the story: keep current, be safe, and it does count in the end.
