This may be an odd ball question. I know a pilot can apply for R-ATP with 1500 total and 200 xc time. But what about single engine ATP? 61.160(f) makes it sound like this is only applicable for multi-engine, which sounds a bit odd. Am I reading this correctly?
Looks to me like you’re reading it correctly. Keep in mind that there is currently very little need for a single engine ATP, so reducing the experience requirements for it doesn’t get the same prIORITY as the multi ATP.
Yes you are reading it correctly, R-ATP is only a multiengine thing. Mainly because it allows you to serve as SIC, but not PIC. How many single engine aircraft even require a SIC? Would there be a point to a single-engine R-ATP?
the only way there would be a point would be if a 121 operator began operating a single engine aircraft, and the OpSpec required two pilots (since to my knowledge no single engine aircraft type certificate requires two pilots). Then the FO Would need an ATP. But even then the 61.160 R-ATP reg seems to be written for only multi-engine so in that instance the FO would need the full ATP
