Ryan Field Fly-in, West Glacier, Montana

June 27, 2009
To all RAF supporters:

The 2009 fly-in at Ryan Field is coming up! It’s a great opportunity for you to meet Ben and Butchie Ryan, see the property, get acquainted with other RAF supporters and share ideas on enhancing the future of recreational aviation opportunities.

Many of you have responded to an earlier e-mail indicating that you will be in attendance. However, that was more than two months ago and personal plans do change. If you are coming, please RSVP the fly-in organizer, Chuck Jarecki, at skywagon@centurytel.net or phone 406-883-2248 no later than June 20th with how many are in your party, are you staying overnight, are you driving or flying? This will facilitate meal planning and parking. If you are flying and have not yet received the standard safety information briefing via e-mail, you must request and receive (via email) a briefing from Chuck Jarecki before leaving home.

The RAF Board of Directors is hosting this fly-in. Arrivals be all day Saturday with final departures on Sunday. There will be camping available under the wing. A new vault privy is being installed on site. New parking areas are being prepared. A second windsock is now at the northeast corner of the field. Campers are responsible for their own meals except the Saturday afternoon BBQ when the RAF will provide steaks. It is requested for the BBQ that participants (if able) bring a side dish, salad or desert to share. RAF will have an ample supply of ice to keep dishes cool as well as cups, plates and cutlery. Bring your own drinks. The BBQ is to be held about 5:30, allowing time for some to fly home before dark.

Last year we had a community breakfast Sunday morning, firing up the wood stove for eggs, bacon and other goodies supplied by the campers. Campers are encouraged to bring something.

Ryan Field is depicted on the current Great Falls Sectional Chart. Use 122.9 for the common traffic advisory frequency. Please avoid flying over Glacier National Park.
Two helicopter scenic flight operations are based about one mile west of West Glacier along Highway 2. They do not monitor 122.9 on a regular basis, so watch for their operations in and out. They generally fly outbound over the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. They will be advised of the Ryan Field fly-in traffic.

If you are driving, from West Glacier go east on Highway 2 about two miles (just past mile marker 155), make a hard right turn on a gravel road and go two miles to the end of the road at the Ryan home. If coming from the east, turn left on the first road after mile post 156. Do not drive onto the airstrip until directed.

If for some reason you find you cannot make it this year after RSVPing that you were coming, please let Chuck know by June 26th.

See you at Ryan’s on June 27th.

John McKenna, President RAF

Hey, there's a fly-in that Mark won't have to take three days each way to get to! :goofy:
