Matt Hansen and Jessica Scharle completed the first leg and just took off on the second leg of their attempt to set a record for a coast to coast speed record in a Light Sport Aircraft (LSA). They made pretty good time and seemed eager to get back in the air when I talked to Matt During the stop in Concordia Parish, LA. You can follow their progress on flightaware.com. Look for N453JH. You can read more about the plan on AVWEB at this link. http://www.eaa.org/news/2009/2009-05-14_record.asp

I'll try to keep you updated as we get word also.

Blue Skies and Tail Winds Matt and Jessica!!

I wonder if they ran into problems in TX. No entry after that.
Yes and no. They got 25-35 kt headwinds in Texas but pressed on. They completed the flight that evening after over 19 hours of flying time.

Flightaware seemed to be pretty inconsistent sometimes with tracking VFR flight despite having near continuos flight following.

Matt said they were tired but it seemed to go fairly quickly cause they were busy planning and reevaluating the plan constantly. It was an amazing trip. Congratulations to them both!!

So somebody needs to do a solo version of the same flight.

I've got to finish my plane dang it.
