I don't get the difference between the two. Maybe it could be just me.

So if you click new, you will see this thread.
Then if yo go away and come back and click new you wont see this thread because you have read it. There are no new posts in it.
You can click recent and you will see it again.
Recent is like What was posted today
New is What was posted that I haven't clicked and read yet
