Ray Harryhausen, stop-motion animator, dies.

Amazing special effects (for the time).

Amazing special effects (for the time).

Even though the stop-motion was almost always evident, I always found it good enough to enjoy and appreciate. Found this nice compendium titled "The Ray Harryhausen Creature List":

His best movie in my opinion was The Valley of Gwangi. It was a western "Cowboy James Franciscus seeks fame and fortune by capturing a Tyrannosaurus Rex living in the Forbidden Valley and putting it in a Mexican circus."

Done in 1966, it is remarkable in how life-like the creatures are, down to throat expansions as they breathe. The story is interesting, too.

He was the grand master of stop-motion, and the inspiration for hordes of today's CG animators. RIP, a brilliant artist and innovator.
