Private thread access by bots/guests (Vbulletin question)

I'm a mod on a site that uses Vbulletin forum software. We have a "members only" private access area plus our staff area is private. On the "Who's online" log it shows an occasional guest and/or bot accessing a thread that is in a private area. How can this happen? Do we have a bust in the system?

Is the bot accessing it with a valid user account? If so it probably registered it.

No, they are all guests. At least the ones in question.
