I look forward to it, Jesse. I admire your skills. Makes me wish I'd spent more time studying when I was younger.
I'm getting too lazy, I guess. I'm actually decently competent in PHP and have a passing familiarity with graphic design. But my modifications to Coppermine consisted of about 12 minutes changing the colors in the CSS to make them more or less match the rest of the site, adding the link on the bottom, and pasting some Google Adsense code in the template. That was it. I didn't event write PHP includes. I just typed the code right into the template. I figured, hey, it's a couple of lines; if they get trashed in an update, I'll just paste them back in.
What happened to spur me to put up a gallery was that I noticed that I'd never gotten around to reinstalling Fantastico on the server after I upgraded, so I decided to take care of that. Not that I really need it, but what the heck, I paid for it, so why not? But there was a problem with the license (new IP), so I had to submit a ticket to the hosting company.
Well, the best support tech in the outfit happened to be on duty and assumed that it must be an emergency if I was submitting a ticket on a Sunday afternoon. So he escalated the ticket and put in an emergency order to customer service to re-associate the license to my IP.
Once they went out of their way to do that on a Sunday (it was done in less than half an hour), I felt obliged to actually install something. So I put a gallery on FlySportUSA, and another on my family site for my extended family to use.
I know there's not exactly a shortage of free photo hosting, but I have scads of excess bandwidth and storage, anyway, and the software is free. So we'll see if anyone other than me actually registers and uses it.
