I was looking for an Iowa destination, and taking inspiration from @Martin Pauly, Teresa & I went to Pella for an overnight. Really nice airport, some history & museums, and top notch food.
Mississippi Bridge at Burlington
KPEA
Miniature village at the Vermeer windmill was a highlight.
Another highlight was the Pella City Band who have been playing on the square in the summer since the 50's according to the conductor.
If you go, don't miss the Dutchfix restaurant, next to the Klockenspiel
We stayed with Bev & Doug Terpstra at "The Dwelling Place" B&B. They picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. Great place, great people, great breakfast. Highly recommended.
Of course we had to visit Jaarsma Bakery
The cold front moved in faster than forecast, so we got to dodge storms on the way home.
