One of the things that needs to be taken care of on 01L is a lower strut with some corrosion on the chrome part. I found a used one. While it could be put on as is, the paint is pretty rough and I thought I would strip and paint it.

It looks like Methylene Chloride is the one that is normally used. However I want to be sure that if any gets on the chrome part that it will not be damaged.

Try "Soy-Gel" a great paint stripper made from soybeans that doesn't smell or
burn your skin. I've used it on almost every kind of paint and it works great.
Google "Soy-Gel" as you have to buy on-line.

As said, it won't hurt the chrome, but I would be careful about it getting on the seals. It will probably damage them.

Why not have it rebuilt while you have it off?

It will be rebuilt. It is just the lower fork assembly I am replacing, because of corrosion on the chrome. I have bought the seal kit to use when the replacement is installed. I assume that replaces any slides and seals.
