For anyone following the Mars Rover stories:

On Friday Opportunity escaped the sand dune it has been dug into since SOL 446 (April 26). All 6 wheels are now on solid ground. YAY!!! :happydance:
Multiple drive commands were issued for 12 then 20 meters each resulting in travel from 0.9 - 5.1 inches. Wheel slippage rate has been 99.5%. (581ft of drive commands resulting in 3 feet total distance traveled)

A few pictures: (wheels are 10" in diameter)

Front and Rear Hazcam show the best digout sequences.

They're going to take it easy for a few days and sort out how to avoid this in the future on this type terrain.

In the meantime while Opportunity had the limelight, Spirit on the other side of the planet has exceeded 500 days on the surface and is now going mountain climbing to the summit of Methuselah as soon as it can find a good route.

Cruise on little robots... :yinyang:
