I will be writing a review of air band haldhelds.

The intended use may affect what characteristics are important
in a transceiver.

I would like to read of unusual uses for handheld transceivers.

For example, one pilot uses his exclusively for taxiing across
unknown ground. He gives the transceiver to a friend who
walks ahead of the aircraft looking for chuckholes. He devised
this procedure after an expensive experience.

When flying to E45, my father and other pilots use theirs to give inbound aircraft a 'deer check'. Not fun having a deer on the runway after dark up there.

When I was student trying to get comfortable with radio procedures, I used to spend my lunchhour at the airport listening to radio chatter.
Now I use it to pick up ATIS, either on the ground or in the air as needed.
The A23 also has a VOR. It's a reasonable backup.
