Wanted to make a place for NorCal flyers to post where they are flying. To see if any one else wants to meet up, with out hijacking John's monthly flight page.
So with that said. I'm going to Famosa raceway in Bakersfield, for the Nostalgia drags, and swap meet.L73 Poso Kern is right next to the drag strip. Anyone else planing to go. I have not settled on a day Saturday or Sunday breakfast at Harris Ranch fuel up and on to races. No fuel at L73. Gota Fly.

It is cool to see so much activity in NorCal. I am about to pull the trigger on a Grumman and will be looking for a good excuse to get it in the air.

Thank you for making this thread. I am thinking of going to the spot landing contest in March, and John's March fly-in.

Funny. I just got invited to Tahoe. Leaving tonight (not my car so I'm just along for the ride). Back Sunday night. Had to scramble to get a dog sitter.

Sorry if this is in the other thread, but I just got this email today, here's a fly out this weekend on March 10 (I will not be in attendance):

    Hi folks,

This is a reminder of the Willits EAA Chapter 1027 fly-in meeting, lunch and safety seminar, this Sunday, March 10th at Willits Airport, O28 ,beginning at 11 AM until 3PM.

This month's safety seminar is about airport signs and markings, important items for pilots to know in order to operate safely. This seminar will allow pilots to complete the Wings Program on this subject on line, and will serve as a good refresher to all.

Lunch will be beef tacos, refried beans, dessert and
beverage for a donation of seven dollars. All are welcome, along with any guests they may want to bring.

This is an advertised Historic Aircraft Display event, with cetifiicates of display available free of charge.

Alert- Sunday is the beginning of Pacific Daylight Savings Time. You might want to turn your clocks ahead one hour at bedtime Saturday evening in order not to be late for the lunch Sunday!

We hope to see you all there.

    Cheers, fly safely,

    John,

I don't even know where I'm going. Again, I'm tagging along. All I know is the plan is to ski all day on Saturday and then a half of a day on Sunday. Who knows what resort. I'm going to rent gear there. I haven't been in 5-10 years (ski).

Northstar is pretty close to the Truckee airport. I will have to check and see if there is a shuttle. Maybe I will fly. Skiing has been one of my main hobbies since I was a kid. This is the first year I haven't gotten a pass in a very long time, but with my son away at school, I don't really have a ski buddy anymore. Historically, I have skied about 12 to 15 days a year.

The weather was perfect. Just a little wind at the end of the day, so I flew into KTRK. There is a public bus that picks up right in front of the terminal, once an hour and Northstar is the first stop coming and going ($1.75), but the bus only runs until early April. The snow was phenomenal.[IMG]

I used to ski a long time ago but also lost anyone to go with. So I went thinking "I'm not sure if I'll remember how to ski." I was pleasantly surprised and did not fall once, even did some black diamond starts to blues and was shocked that I was OK. A bit rusty and sore but by the end of the day I could turn and stop and all that good stuff. Had a ton of fun. A person who had been 7 times this season told me Saturday was the best conditions all season. So I guess I lucked out in terms of the runs.

The snow was excellent, you couldn't ask for better conditions. A couple inches of fresh on top of hard pack (no ice). There were some good bumps over on the backside lift (though you don't get moguls like you used to, before snowboards). The trees looked good, but I only did a few shallow passes on them. It was way crowded in the morning, but the lines thined out a bit after lunch. It was the first time I have flown in there. It was fun combining two of my favorite things to do.

I haven't decided. It depends on who's going. If I am on my own, I will probably head to the coast, instead.

I am still restricted as I'm still working on my PPL. But have really enjoyed flying around Sonoma/Napa/Mendocino/Marin. So far I think my favorites are Napa and Boonville and Ukiah. Anyone recommend good places for a cross country destination once I receive my PPL??? Id like to slowly start branching out once I have it without biting off too much.

    Thanks and happy NorCal flying!

There are lots of great ones in NorCal. We cover many of them on the NorCal flyin threads. You will start biting off more and more as you get closer. Monterey is a good one, as is Little River and Columbia (flyin on the 23rd, knock out one of your cross countries and join us).

There was only one retract in the contest. Would a gurney count as a retract?

Any upcoming lunches? I should be closing on a Grumman Tiger in the next 2 weeks, so I will be itching to have somewhere to go.
