Congratulations to my student Ty Mitchell on successfully completing his Private Pilot, Single-Engine Land rating today! Ty started his training in the bitter cold of January this year. His training was limited to Saturday mornings since he works 500 miles away during the week. He often rolled into town at midnight or after, then made it to the airport by 7:30 a.m. for lessons. We usually did two lessons each Saturday, with a ground school study break between flight lessons. Even with these challenges he managed to complete his license in less than six months, a major accomplishment. Best wishes for a long and safe flying career, Ty!

Nice work! Keep it up, we need all we can get.

Awesome! That definitely sounds like an achievement only flying one day per week.

Congrats! to the both of you.. How many total hours did he have?

He was right at 50 hrs., with 10.4 being solo. There was also an extra 6 of dual x-c due to a trip I made with him to where he lives/works during the week so we could finish up the last of his night requirements and prepare for the checkride after his workday was over. It was a grueling final week, including dealing with a stuck valve on the 150 that threatened to thwart our final push!

But we made it!

Pass on my congrats to Ty, LD. Also, congrats to you on successfully introducing another person to the joys of private aviation.

FYI, based on the advice "Buy your last airplane first", he's currently negotiating on a turbo-normalized Bonanza A36. He knows he is many hours from being approved (and insured) to fly it solo, but is willing to spend the time it takes to meet the requirements. We'll get started on the instrument training in it as soon as the deal is done.

Wow sounds like a journey but a cool one
