I just read on RAS that a fellow by the name of Ron Schwartz made a fantastic flight on Sunday in Pennsylvania. I think near Ted's neck of the woods. All in all he flew just over 950 kilometers in 12 hrs and 15 minutes. This is like the equivalent of flying coast to coast in a cub in a day. The Schweizer 1-26 is a fine glider but it really doesnt excel in the performane department. about a 22:1 glide ratio is it. Ron seems to have used primarily ridge lift and just flew a good flight. Congratulations to him. Here is the OLC trace:

That looks like a lot of work, and fun.

I helped a guy launch his glider on Saturday - I asked if he would be up for 5 or 6 hours. He said "I wish" and said he'd probably ONLY fly for an hour or so. I had to leave before he landed, after about an hour and a half, so I don't know how long he flew.
