4kB flashdrive (usb drive)
only 180bytes on it
Won't accept new files
How to unlock or de-Protect it so I can erase/add data?

yeah, thanks
Its the only media I have handy and I need to transfer a simple file

Have you tried formatting it? That clears the data.

On a Windoze XP computer, go to "My Computer", right click on the drive, choose "Format"

On a Mac- I think it formats it automatically 'cuz that's what you want to do :)

This may be obvious, but some flash drives have a little switch on them that locks/unlocks them. Make sure it is in the unlocked state.

4kb is a default block size in most formats...so one byte of 4095 still occupies 4k on the disk.

We use encrypted USB drives and this sounds suspiciously like the partition with the encryption SW on it. Is there another drive letter showing up? In my case F: was tiny and couldn't be written, but G: was large and could. I've never heard of a 4K USB stick. Heck, 5 1/4" floppies held 360K back in the dark ages when we had to push data uphill through the snow both ways. And we were GRATEFUL!

under properties it says 4Kb.....but sticker on the side says 1gB
nope, no external switch.
trying not to erase the data on it
its from a company following a meeting; their notes
I have something worked out - tks, gang.

There is no such thing as a 4Kb flash drive -- but to someone that isn't technical 4Kb might as well be 4Tb. No reason to ridicule over it.

Dave -- if you can't get it figured out PM me.
