Will Mozy allow me to backup my external harddrive?
Will it see the ehd as an "additional computer", requiring the fee for extra computers?
How long will it take to backup 100gB? (speedtest attached) Is it simple arithmetic to figure this?

As to the external hard drive:

As to how long:

Be aware that once you delete a file from your computer, Mozy keeps the last copy for 30 days... then it's gone forever. Don't use Mozy to get a permanent archive of files, it's for dealing with recovery of accidentally deleted files or system failure or disaster recovery, not permanent archive.

I should say that's their policy; but I did find that they might not actually delete the file from their archive after 30 days; they only "flag" the file as deleted; they might not actually delete the file unless they need the disk space.

...use Carbonite. http://www.carbonite.com With discount code twit you get a get two week free trial and two months free. (Remind them of the two months if they don't' give it to you when pay up. I just emailed them.) I just wish they had a discount for 2-3 computers on the same account.

9gB per day, wow - that would take weeks!

PS I checked Windows backup wizard and it does not seem to see the ehd so that won't work.

I tried to make some dvds but that is very difficult apparently.

Maybe I will just buy a new ehd.
Should I mess with trying to change out the hd on this ehd?

Carbonite got 80% of my stuff on my 100GB disk in like 36 hours - and that's with only using part of my skinny 300MB DSL backchannel. Keep in mind that by default they only backup your user folder and such. You can add more to the backup.

I resisted, thinking that someday I'd actually backup properly to an external drive or NAS, (where I do a backup about once a year or less ) but in the end I decided having a redundant continuous offsite backup is cheap insurance.

One nice feature is you can access the backup over the 'net from anywhere. They have an iPhone/iPad app that let's you get the files.
