Well, it definitely looks 40s Piper, so I would imagine it became the Apache.

Nope. Piper acquired another big-name manufacturer, and this was one of the designs it inherited. The old name stuck through the development process.

I got my multi in 1971 in an old Apache. We [lovingly] called it the Apathy.
