It's always a bummer when that happens, happened a few times to me.

On another note after reading that artical, this might put a crimp in the Sport Pilot program. When so early on, a well known, good and competent instructor gets killed with student in sport rules plane, that doesn't bode well. People on the fence or the other side are watching and they don't like seeing this kind of stuff.

I hate it when I hear about such experienced pilots going in....
Makes me wonder what chances I have to make it to a ripe old age, being the inexperienced little 300 hour PP I am.

Sorry to hear that. I lost a close friend last year myself to a night ifr landing. It is always hard.
