My worst experience was in Nairobi, Africa, in the 1980's. I was in the back seat in a little Piper Cub, behind the pilot. We were on the runway, starting to take off, when he went into a flailing fit and totally collapsed. I thought he was dead. The plane was on the ground twirling around and around. I didn't know what button to push or whatever to stop the plane. Finally, I managed to push the pilot over a bit and get the door open, and jumped out of the plane. When I landed, the tail swung around and hit me in the head. It took 10 guys to hold the plane still so they could get the pilot out. It's a good thing the tail knocked me down because the propeller was coming at me next.
I figure if I lived through that, a plane is not the way I'm going out.
