MLG Avionics?

MGL is popular with homebuilders - especially the Sonex crowd. Not sure about installation in standard certificated aircraft (but I'm sure those who do will be along shortly).
I was considering using one in a Sonex I was building (and have since sold). Would still consider them, if I had need.

Their products offer a lot of flexibility (in a seemingly kludgey sort of way) and could be great for adding a lot of information for VFR flight.

What does kludgey mean? And are there any negitives to a EFIS like this?
