I had a change to play around with the radios in my plane the other day and I realized that my #1 MK-12e would not pick up a VOR signal. It picked up the GS and the LOC with no issues though.

My #2 MK-12e (no GS in this one) picked up the LOC and the VOR with no issues.

If I recall there would not be a separate antenna for the LOC and the VOR.

Any thoughts on where to look?

First, can you hear the ID? Are you sure it's not the indicator?

The localizer and VOR usually are the same antenna (the signals are the same frequency and polarization). It's the glide slope that often uses a different antenna (and often the COM side of the radio, which ideally is vertically polarized).

It's not unheard of that the two radios have separate antennas rather than sharing one through a *plexer.

What is different about the LOC vs VOR is that the modulation is different (could be a problem with the radio) and the way the signals are sent to the indicator.
