master metar sources

is there a master metar database/text files anywhere that sites like fltplan.com or others that make available this information get it from? i'm just wondering if they use that or have something on the back-end using telnet to duats or something.

Try http://weather.aero/, it's Experimental Aviation Digital Data Service from aviationweather.gov (NOAA). The dataserver (try it) returns XML.
 
yeap. this is the type of thing i was looking for :) .. aviationweather.gov has a pretty plain metar page that can be retrieved by modifying the url, .. but it's not in a data format and i would have to parse through html to get te stuff i wanted. this is much better. thanks!
