Magnifier Lens Light

I'd welcome recommendations and experiences in a magnifying glass with ring light for use in working on small objects such as electronics.
What magnification and diopter to you find works best? Any lamp or light best? What diameter do you like the lens?
I imagine I'll get a desk mount with articulating arm. I'll mostly use it for fine electronic and similar work with old eyes, probably seated at a work table.

I've always used the rather large 8" ones that have the circuline fluorescent lamp around them. Pretty much the industry standard for 50+ years.
