Have read LSA pilots may not use towered airports unless they have had "additional training" in communications. What exactly does that "additional training" entail? Is it just a course and checkout in ATC communication afterwhich you are entitled to then use towered airports? Or does it actually require you to take it all the way to a Class 111?

Per 14 CFR 61.325, you must receive and log ground and flight training on these areas (including at least three takeoffs and full stop landings at an airport with an operating control tower) from an instructor, and the instructor must endorse your logbook saying that you are proficient in these skills.
