I'm such a bozo - the weekend's supposed to be nice and over lunch I'm rummaging through my flight bag (last used in November ) and there's no pilot nor medical certificate in there! Assuming I might not find them, here's what I've done so far:
1. Went to the FAA airman services site and registered for electronic access. This is a totally great site!
http://registry.faa.gov/amsvcs.asp
2. While in there, I first requested to have my SSN removed from my certificate so I get a new freebie laminated pilot certificate.
3. Then I requested a temporary Authority to Exercise Certificate Privileges. In return, I was emailed a nice PDF that says I'm a private pilot and have a 3rd class medical. Good for 60 days -- so I can use it this weekend!
Here's where I'm stuck:
Item #17 on this FAQ (http://www.cami.jccbi.gov/AAM-300/amcdfaq.html) says to submit AC Form 8060-56 (http://registry.faa.gov/docs/8060-56.pdf) and send $2 for a permanent replacement medical certificate. Unfortunately, the built-in selection boxes for "type of certificate" don't list medical certificate as a choice.
Do I just need to print this out and fill in "medical certificate"? Is the certificate # for my medical still my SSN or is it the new replacement number I was give for my pilot certificate?
Man, I hope I find my originals tonight.
