Looking for a new home airfield

Hello Everyone:

I am moving to Tunica Mississippi at the end of May 2009, and I am looking for a new home airfield. I have a private pilot’s license (single engine land) and when I fly, I rent a Cessna 172. I also need to find a CFI as I don't get to fly often enough (low time too), and I am seriously considering pursuing IFR/Commercial to keep me flying. I would like to find these services close to Tunica and I am wondering if anyone can recommend these services or point me in the right direction? I found a couple of services; however, they are a good 40 minutes from Tunica by car; would really like to find a home airfield closer.

Thanks.

UTA, 30M, HEE, and H75 are all within 20 miles of Tunica

Simple little program that never let me down and links to airnav for AP detail info. Just enter city and state and AP's within defined search radius are listed and mapped.

Simple, I like simple !

UTA has been upgraded over the past several years to attract the casino clients with their jet charters. The FBO staff is nice enough, but they have a particular customer base they focus on.

Most of the airports in that area are primarily crop duster bases. Your best bet for training and rentals would be in the Memphis area.

I recommend you try to connect with a local EAA chapter in the Memphis area. The members could help you find a good instructor and decent rentals.

Other options would be Cleveland, Greenwood, Grenada, and Greenville, all south or southeast of Tunica and may be further than you wish to drive. Most CFI's in the area are free lance and you'll have to ask around to track one down.

Once the prop is back on the plane I could make a run to UTA and we could go "shopping" at the local airports one day when the weather's decent if you're interested. PM me for more info. I live south of Jackson so I don't have a lot of first hand info on CFI's in your area but I'd be happy to help you locate one.

Here's a googleEarth file with all the airports within 50 nm.
