Looking for a Garmin 295...

Hi

I am looking to buy a Garmin 295 with an Atlantic Base Map.

All the GPS sold by Garmin in Europe are equipped with that particular map.

I know that it's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack but...

I also know that the 295 is quite obsolete by todays' standards - but it's more than enough for me...

ebay shows quite a few 295s for sale.

I've had 295, 296, and 396. The 295 is quite a bit slower in terms of screen refresh, scrolling, and has a more primitive display, but the price is right. I bet you can score one on eBay for <$300.

Prior to purchasing, I would make sure that garmin, jepp, or whomever is still providing database updates. Sure, it's a VFR tool, but a lot of 295s are approaching 10yrs old... I'm sure quite a few airport runway designations, lengths, comms freqs, and so on have changed during that time.

Within the past week somebody has reported that updates for their 295 are no longer available. Can't remember details.
