I enjoy reading journals of other pilots' adventures; here's one that was just completed from the UK down to Greece, up to the Ukraine and back.

I found it interesting to see what it takes to accomplish a GA adventure like this in Europe, compared to what we deal with in the US.

Airspace isn't really an issue when flying IFR because one gets a whole-route clearance.

For VFR, yes, it's a mess, sticking a load of charts together all over the floor with little bits of tape and working out a route which is outside controlled airspace. One then has to do a "Plan B" which is a more reasonable route but it relies on getting CAS transits, which one usually gets but not always.

I have never flown VFR in the USA (did the IR there) but the airspace there seems a lot easier, VFR to 18k feet...
