FAR Part 43, Appendix A, Subpart C lists items that an owner [without AP/IA] can perform.

Are the listed tasks examples, or is the owner limited to just these specific items?
If a guy wants to do something 'simple' like replace the O-ring on a gas cap with an identical part (same part number as referenced in parts catalog for that aircraft), but this task is not specifically listed, does it fall under general preventative maintenance, or is a mechanic's sign off necessary?
