Lightning and motorcycles

Saw on the news last night - motorcycle rider struck by lightning, observed by 4 witnesses, while riding in US-36. Rider pronounced dead at the scene. News reported that it was unknown if the rider was killed by the lightning strike or the resulting crash into the center barrier.

Ewwww. That's gotta hurt.

You MUST be very careful around weather on those things. Just like with traffic, there's no protection from the weather. You're essentially just a glorified pedestrian.


Even knowing weather as well as I do doesn't always help. I got to pay my dues to the weather gods about 9-10 years ago at 25mph while no where near the overgrown tesla coil that was spitting lightning bolts...Let's just say that ball lightning STINGS:
