My family and I are taking my 690B Commander to visit family in Iowa this summer. We are thinking of flying more direct instead of AK to WA then over to Iowa, we would land in Edmonton for fuel and restrooms then continue. Will we still have to go thru customs like we were staying in Canada? or something shorter? I have all required docs and the plane and I are IFR so weather won't hold us for long. And any other advice for landing in Canada (I wont be carrying any guns).

Don't leave the aircraft until cleared by the customs .Do you have a customs seal as you will have to re enter in the states?

Also remember to file eAPIS on both your inbound and outbound legs.

expect to hassled by CBP . . . I imagine this would be fairly suspicious - taking a direct route, stopping only long enough to pick up the drugs, and then re-enter the US immediately on a direct route. . . .

Yeah, thats pretty suspicious activity. . . .

For a while, you could. But then 9/11 happened and they tightened back up.

It's just like customs inbound and outbound. That said, it's pretty darn simple. I did it once coming back from St. Pierre (France) and had to stop in CYSJ for fuel heading back to the US.

Personally, I'd do it for a more direct flight.

690B - nice airplane! Flew one a bit on 135. :)
