It is not Katrina. For one thing huricanes are huge, many miles wide. YOu could not see them as depicted in these photos. I have been through 4 huricanes and none ever looked like that. Plus you do not see them just sneaking up on you as shown. Those are just regular storms.

This is a real picture of the storm surge.

Pic 5 is about the only one I see that looks like it could be part of a hurricaine system. I've been through a few of them now as well as seeing several Tornados and supercell storms (I was flying past OKC headed for Minot ND when the big F5 hit there a few years back, that was AWESOME to see), and most of the pictures were of those kinds of storms. #3 looks strange, like a photoshop image.

So other than the noteriety of passing along "storm" pix, why would someone start this email? There's no warning of virii. Intellegent people would eventually figure out they're not hurricane pix (could be related weather, but not the middle of the storm).
Some form of instant gratification?

The pictures are quite amazing, my best guess would be that the "translation" got destroyed somewhere along the line. "Check out these awesome storm pictures" "Check out these storm pictures" "Look, pictures from the storm" "Oh man, hurricane pictures!" "Hurricane Katrina pics!!!!"

See how easy it can degenerate? All it really takes is one person making an assumption, then it'll propogate from there. :/

Awe crap, guys! See if I post anything again (in the next few minutes at least!) This is one tough crowd!

BTW, just kidding, of course!

Cool PIX at any rate, to me they make the dangerous weather look solid rather than fluid.

My experience is it can be both at the same time:eek: .

Post away. One of the many posters I actually look forward to reading his missives.
Of course, pix of hardware are more entertaining and you haven't had them in awhile.

Yeah, like a brick wall of green water rolling at you.

We were headed to Campichi from a job down in Trinidad with an old Halter 185' supply boat that had been converted to a four point anchor dive boat and we started bucking through some real weather coming up west of Cuba. It was Feb and one of the Artic Zephyrs had really reached way low giving us a real major blow. These boats were never designed to be dive boats so there was little room to put the gas racks (20 440cf "K" bottles manifolded together and mounted in a steel framework) on the foredeck chained down to padeyes welded on the deck. We carried 6 gas racks up there. They are extremely heavy and well secured. Seas were running about 20-25' and steep. We crested one wave, and I looked up and there was a mountain of water in front of us. We came down that wave and the bow dug in. The gas racks tore loose, one of them landed on the walkway in front of the wheelhouse beaking 2 windows, 2 went over the wheelhouse, one stopping as it took out the radar/light mast and landing on top semi securing itself on the remainder of the mast. The other made it all the way down to the back deck (taking out the airconditioners on the O2 "Texas" deck)where it found its way off the stern a bit later (a couple hands went out to try to coral it and I yelled out on the PA to get the hell off the deck). The ones that remained on the fore deck had managed to create a massive dent in the house in front of them. That's what kind of power water has.

USS Nimitz, 1979, Naples, Italy. We put out to see to ride out a storm and had waves crashing into the hangar deck as we left port, which is, if I recall, about 40 feet above the water. The second day out, a friend snapped some photos from the bridge showing a wave coming over the bow...significantly over the bow (which if I recall is over 90' above the waterline). We had aircraft chained down on the bow, and his photos show the wave towering above the planes, second photo shows half the planes visible, and 3rd photo shows nothing but green ocean. That was one wild ride!
