Managed to get just over 280 ground speed in the P-Baron on Saturday. Pretty strong winds up there at 150. Lots of fun to see the waypoints stream buy on the DP and Arrival into David Wayne Hooks (DWH) airport. Not as much fun returning on Sunday <g>

Except from Flight Aware:

17:12 31.33 -96.40 270 15000 17:13 31.25 -96.38 275 15000 17:14 31.18 -96.37 280 14500

Not to get into a dipstick swinging contest, but I scored a 300gs in my non-turbo'd C310I, flying over Cleveland at 11,500 a couple of years ago, heading West to East.

The convo with Cleveland Center went something like this.....

Me: Cleveland Center, twin Cessna ..... level, 11,500.
CC: Twin Cessna....., radar contact, (pause)..., ummm, what type of twin Cessna are you?
Me: C310, sir.......
CC: (pause).... Nice Tailwind!!!
Me: Don't you know it! (smiling, with my hair on fire!)

Made it from KCOS to KART in 6.5 hrs on the Hobbs...... Took me 10.5 to get home a week later! And that was pedalling really hard!

280 That would put me in Minneapolis from St Joseph MO in 1.07hrs.

Now refering to the thinking twin thread .
Didn't some one say "You don't buy a twin for more Speed" ??????????

Wish I had me one of those.

I'm sure I'll get some faster ground speeds on some trips east. This was just a real surprise because the Dallas-Houston trip is so short! I was truing out about 210 knots; so, you can see what the winds were at 150. It was just fun and I wanted to post it!

Best,

Dave

Hopefully someday in my flying I can all see 280gs

A few years ago I was flying a 172 from Jax>Tallahassee into a 38 kt headwind at 4,500 when Jax Center calls me up.....

JC: Cessna xxxxx what's your destination today sir?
Me: Jax Center Cxxxxx is going to TLH today
JC: (after a brief pause) Cxxxx, maybe you should have taken your car.

sigh

I don't get it. What's to brag about? I routinely get more than 280 from my 150.

Oh... wait... you weren't talking centimeters per second, were you??

It would be my pleasure. Went to Hooks last flight. Last time I went into Hobby was at 1:00 A.M. to clear customs from Mexico. But, if I'm headed that-a-way, I'll be happy to try to link up. If you're up near Addison, please come see how us poor GA guys live ;)

Best,

Dave
