I think I need one

I don't know, but to me it is even uglier than a trike, and just about as pointless. Well at least you can lean into the curves. I may need to test ride one to see if it is any fun though. That could possible change my mind :)

No idea on the Spyder, but if your wife is interested in riding, why not send her to MSF and get her set up on something she's comfortable with to learn on?

I wouldn't want to go to California on a 250/500 series bike, but it'll work fine for training. My 1800cc motorcycle that I just picked up is much better suited for that trip, but is definitely not something I would just hand over to a newbie.

does shy have a bicycle? if so, can she ride it? if so, get a real motorcycle. If you buy that, next thing you know is you tongue and ear piercings, talk with a lisp, and go shopping with your wife.
