I was surprised, I called for the first time since October, and waited *only* 2 minutes. And the briefer knew what he was talking about. And I even got Lansing FSS which is the one I should have gotten.
I called in Las Vegas, NM to get a briefing. The wait was about 1 minute, not bad, but the the briefer stumbled and bumbled through the entire thing. "Stafford, OK. Ok." Then proceeds to give me information about Stafford, AZ. Then some information about Corona (partially my fault for giving the wrong ID, but come on, California vs. Oklahoma??).
I started the call the way I always do:
"Good morning, this is 6399A, a Cessna 182/U (or whatever), and I'm looking for a standard weather briefing for a VFR flight departing Las Vegas, NM, and going to Stafford, OK, 11,500 ft, and should be 3 hours en route."
Briefer responds:
"Ok, so you're a 182....Where are you coming from?"
Me; "Las Vegas, NM, Lima Victor Sierra.
Briefer: "Victor Sierra?"
Me: "Lima Victor Sierra"
Briefer: "Oh, haha, I thought you were in another country, giving 2 digit ids."
Me: ....
Briefer: "Ok, now, where are you going?"
Me: "Stafford, OK"
Briefer: "Ok, and what altitude?"
Me: "11,500 ft"
Briefer: "Estimated time en route?"
Me: "3 hours."
Ugh. Then he went into the Arizona and California mistakes. This was Albuquerque Flight Service, BTW.
