How do I fund it? Same way the government funds things -- surreptitiously divert it from more important purposes, then lie about it.

Thanks for the correction. Not sure where I got the 20k idea from, but with 12k and a 7500 hour airframe that changes the math a bit.

Garmin G5! Nice! We’ve recently installed one of those into one of the club airplanes. Love it!

Does it have the optional external antenna? I'm hoping I get a signal with the internal one.

It does. The G5 makes for a nice addition to the GNS480.

The internal receiver does work, but it’s not as strong as having the external. You may find that it’s slow to fetch a signal from a satellite at times. Give it a few hours of trial in your airplane, because it might work just fine. Having the external antenna ensures that it’s always receiving a healthy signal. Worst case, is that it will need an external and they can be had fairly reasonably on the web if need be.

Keep me posted. You’ll like it!

The external antenna is the GMU11 rt? Am planning for a dual G5 this winter and head into instrument training. Unfortunately I have to retain my vacuum AI for the piece of crap AP

Not sure about that specific antenna, but this one should work. I’m not sure of the exact one that’s connected to ours.

G5 worked great today. Internal antenna works fine and never lost any satellites. Love the JPI. That thing replaces like 6 different instruments in one easy to read display. Two test flights and already got the bugs worked

Excellent! Glad it’s working well! Looks like you’ve got a nice setup there. Great evening for a test flight. Thx for update!

Looks great. I love my G5 and engine monitor as well. I just WAAS'ed the 530 and had them hook the G5 to it so if you end up ever having problems with the internal antenna, don't buy one just let me know. My external one could use a good home as I won't be needing it.

Thanks. Right now the thing is flawless as is. Need to get in the books on both the G5 and the JPI. Pretty straight forward but need to read up on the buttonology for customization.

saddletramp, Walla Walla Soaring?! I've seen your website--nice!

And thanks for the post that gives a peek into the personal side of the business. I completely get the work involved. I and three other guys established a CAP glider operation where we flew cadets on their glider orientation rides, flew senior members interested in gliding flight and instructed. We averaged over 300 flights per year. Busy weekends! But very fulfilling as well. And I did manage to get my Libelle 301 up for some nice cross-country flights on the nicer soaring days.

Quick question if you don't mind: We sometimes tow using a CAP C-182. How do you handle the engine during descent? We've tried a few things and it's worked out fine but the #3 cyl gets the hottest on climb and wants to cool fast on the descent. So always open for suggestions...

I didn't have to lie about it, but there's a reason why I drive a 12 year old car and don't do a lot of other things.

So I started this little side business...
(legal now in Kalifornia, y'know ;))

But I'm dipping into the product a little, and the profits are offset by the fortune I'm spending on Cheetos. :D
