    Homemade Cryptex

So this year I decided to make a few home made christmas gifts. One didn't get completed as early as planned but better late than never! This is called a Cryptex and just like on the Da Vinci code if you put in the right combination of letters, the inner tube will slide out revealing whatever you placed inside. Everything except for the handles were custom made with parts found at hobby stores and home improvement stores. We used a plan for the idea but pretty much just improvised the rest. It's taken a bit of time to complete since we were learning as we went and made mistakes but that's what made the project fun!

Good for you for handcrafting something rather than purchasing a gift card.
