Hi all,
I have a special-issuance first-class medical that requires me to visit a HIMS AME every six months for renewal. On the most recent visit, I was charged $1,000: about $450 for the exam, and for one hour additional of the AME's time for FAA correspondence ... at a fee of approx. $550 an hour.
I found this a little steep. I'll spend $2,000 a year to keep my medical if I need to, but I would rather not if not necessary.
Can anyone share what they are charged for a similar situation? If I am indeed seeing an especially expensive doc, does anyone know how hard it would be to convince the FAA to let me switch?
