KEKA 251300Z 00000KT 6SM BR CLR 05/ A3026 RMK T0050

I'm a little uncertain on how it can be both CLR and BR. Should I just ignore the BR for a VFR flight?

No clouds. Mist reducing visibility to 6 statute miles.

This is common after the marine layer burns off.

If the 6 SM visibility doesn't bother you and the forecast looks good, fire away. Have a plan in case that 6 SM turns into less than 3 SM. But in the morning, it's more likely to slowly turn into 10.

Like it when you have 6 miles with br it can only get better good time for practice approaches

The "BR" isn't "Broken". It is the coded reason for the visibility limitation. One of those instances where non-english crept into the aviation language system. IIRC we have FU for smoke from French or Spanish something like "fumare", HG for hail. Hagel is hail in German. There are probably more.

I think of "BR" as baby rain so mist, which as said above reduced the visibility to 6SM.

Get used to it in EKA. When I flew for AMF we dealt with mist and the marine layer 342 days a year it seemed like.

Anytime the visibility is reported below 7 SM, there has to be a weather phenomena associated with the report. Correct me if Im wrong?

French word for "mist" is "brouillard."

BR = French : Brume, Spanish : Bruma, Italian : Bruma, from Latin : Bruma = Winter time.
Brume = Haze.
Hope that helps.

Didn't know that visibility could be a negative number...

I've seen less than a mile of visibility from the smoke of farmers burning their fields.

Never mind. "Minus" = "less than" in the logic impaired
aviation world.
