Final Approach
I bought an ACR Aerofix 406 handheld PLB about 5 years ago. Apparently the battery in the device is supposed to be replaced every 5 years, and you're supposed to send the thing in to a properly blessed service center to have it done.
Poking around, it's sounding like this service costs about $300, which is close enough to the cost of a new PLB that it effectively makes a handheld PLB a disposable item with a 5 year lifespan.
Has anybody else been through the process of replacing a handheld PLB battery?
