North Fox Island is a gem of a strip managed by the RAF. By going there during the week, I had the entire place to myself for a few days of camping and cooking. After making a last minute run to Beaver Island to get some forgotten chicken, made some chiken kabobs.
It's on my list to check out. Although some very sinister things happened on the island in the 70's by the guy that built the strip.
That looks like a great time. This type of flying is something I'd like to do in addition to the regular flying I do. What kind of tent are you using?
[Edit] - Great video, thanks. [/] Doesn't the USAF have something to say about that? https://theraf.org/featured-airstrip-north-fox-island-mi/
I was using a White Duck bell style tent on that trip. It's very big, and very heavy, but I was doing trips where I would spend up to a week at a time in one place - so comfort was highly valued. This one was big enough to put a queen size bed on one half and still have the other half as living/work space. Oddly, none. This is, by far, the longest time that I've spent on the island and it's also the only time I haven't seen a single snake. As Ed said, Welke has one. I flew into Beaver, which also has one, but it was already out. The manager lent me his car since I was only spending an hour going into town for chicken. Super helpful!
Only place I have seen them recently was in the woodpile, or if you hike out to the old lodge they sun on the concrete.
Man I need to stop making excuses and spend some more time out there. Great video! I love the format of this one!
Uh… I’m confused. You cooked CHICKEN on an island surrounded by seafood? Other than that anomaly, KEWL! Wildly jealous! Thanks for the report!
I would've been more impressed by snake kabobs. C'mon Rich, live off the land! Make for a helluva thumbnail too.
This is the internet… fly to mainland, borrow car, goto seafood department, return, cook and include fishing poles in the background…. Avoid snarks from SGOTIs! Tools Who might starve at a trout farm, but loves to fish! The internet has decorum, I won’t even question cooking swordfish kebabs you caught in Lake Michigan!
Summer is coming! And I owe you a meal. Yeah, it's becoming a bit too much of a theme... Fortunately, I didn't forget this beauty... Here is a convenient link to subscribe, so you don't miss it in a couple weeks. I have a new friend that's interested in foraging. That's probably as close as I'll get to that! I do put occasional easter eggs in my videos. Now I'm thinking that casting into the lake with a bobber and cooking salmon for dinner would be pretty funny.
