Was flying KBVY to KASH today and got 0001 as my code on the ground at KBVY. Usually in this area we get 4xxx and very rarely 5xxx. I read JO 7110.66D and don't see this being anything special.

Did the computer just spit this out because the others were taken?

You didn't accidentally call up as "Air Force One" did you?

Technically its possible, if Obama was slumming it and riding in a '75 PA-28-151 I would be AF One. It would also be hilarious watching the security escort fly circules around themselves failing to maintain 80 kts in a 500 fpm climb

Maybe in the coming zombie apocalypse.

You'd be Executive One.

Only if that aircraft belonged to the USAF would it be AF1

Nixon... on the way home from getting booted ...:dunno::dunno:
When Gerald Ford repeated the words "So help me God" to complete the oath of office, the callsign of Nixon's ride changed in mid-flight from "Air Force One" to "SAM 27000".

"Executive One" would only be used for a civilian-owned aircraft with POTUS aboard.

Funny you should mention that. Flying out of Dulles today I heard someone get 5555 on clearance delivery. I got some boring number. Ahh, the injustice.

I have a picture somewhere from when I was assigned 0001 out of Gaithersburg, MD. I believe I was VFR. Definetely asked for a repeat and I felt weird too.... Like I was squawking something I shouldn't for some reason! But yeah, it does happen from time to time apparently.

The 00XX series is an internal ARTCC code block. It's used by Chicago, Boston, Washington, Denver, Houston, and Miami ARTCCs. Your flight was completely within the boundaries of Boston ARTCC. The Flight Data Processing computer grabbed that code because it was next in the queue.

Nixon's resignation became effective while he was in the air. The callsign of the VC-137C on departure was Air Force One, it became SAM 27000 at noon eastern time.
