My AME is retiring (he's 80+) and now I need to find a new one. For some reason I'm a bit nervous about it.

Anyone have an AME in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area they have personal experience with and like?

Dr. Gabriel Fried at Midway and Sigma, 972-361-0155

Dr. Jeffrey Griffin, Roanoke, 817-491-2564

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful. I will give Dr. Fried a call today.

Wow - got in fast for an appointment.

One note, his nurse helper is a real stickler about BP and Blood Sugar levels. If either are a concern, make sure they are well controlled before you go.

Plus allow additional time for the appointment. Not unusual for him to run 10-15 minutes behind schedule.

One other note on Dr. Fried. He just did mine a few months ago and I have high BP. I had to have a form with me, or he couldn't issue the medical that day (not his rule). The receptionist sent it to me, but I believe it was a standard AOPA form.

(Oh, and Dr. Fried may be older than your AME that retired!)

Dr. Fried was my family doctor a long, long time ago and did my first FAA medical more than twenty years ago. He is certainly experienced. Is he still obsessed with calisthenics? Used to be he'd demonstrate them during the exam. I used Kramer for my last one, and he was great as well.

I remember him doing pushups during an exam about 15 years ago. Not this time. It was all politics. And I'm pretty sure he didn't vote for Obama....

I have been to Dr. Fried since 1993. He's a great guy but his crazy nurse seems to have taken over the practice - picture the Soup Nazi! I'm looking for a new doc because of her.

Hi
If you want an ophthalmologist, Dr David Lee, Houston TX. (713-559-5200) He and I trained together at Harvard's Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He would be good to check intraocular pressure and glaucoma and other eye issues that pilots may have if you do long 13 hour flights. or to get the appropriate uv protection for sunglasses. I am a retinal specialist in San Jose CA. Hope this helps. Gloria Wu

His nurse is quite the Nazi. She ran me off several years ago. It's a shame. Dr Fried is great!

I also have great affection for Dr. Fried, and a powerful antipathy for his nurse. she will cost him business (which, at this stage, may not matter).

Dr. Fried and his office manager Connie are some of best in the business. Connie has helped answer many "what do I need to bring to pass" questions normally reserved for the doc. She has the right manner and knowledge to be an AME herself if she obtained the proper medical credentials.

I agree with Spike and Old Flyer, the blond hair nurse who does the initial intake (weight, BP, vision, etc) might be good at her job, but isn't the warmest of personalities.

I'm currently rolling under BasicMed. But next time I need a 3rd or better, I'll likely go see Dr. Griffith in Roanoke.

Or spend for a ticket to MDW and go see Doc Chien. :D :D
