I was getting ready to depart KAWO today with the family for the holiday. As we were taxiing to runup, saw emergency vehicles headed to mid-field. Some form of low-wing (looked like a regular-tail Bo or similar) was at about mid-field with no gear and a bent prop. Word was everyone ok, looked like everyone was out. Apparently must've happened while I was pre-flighting, but I didn't hear anything (probably because my hanger is in BFE)...

Did you have to taxi back? We were camping at Spearfish and went out exploring. Got back late and when we woke up in the morning, there was a Mooney sitting in the grass rather low to the ground. Word was it wasn't the first time he had to use full power to taxi clear...

Yeah, we would have been able to use 29, but they have it closed until after the Fly-In next weekend. We taxied back and I flipped on the handheld, then got some hangar flying in with my neighbor. After about a half hour, airport ops approved midfield departures so we headed out. They were starting to lift the aircraft by then.

I hope it was a mechanical, but some folks I talked to at the south end watched it and said it looked like a standard approach minus gear, so...

Was having lunch one day years back, at the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant at KVNY. We were at a table right at the big picture windows that look out onto the threshhold of 16L. It made for a close-up, front-row view of the pavement meeting the belly skin of a C-177RG ...

We were standing by the south east side hangars when you went by, and saw the A-36 do the gear up thing. he was from Denver area. that's all I know.

My very first airplane ride in 1978 KVNY=>KAVX=>KVNY ended with us taxiing past our ramp to get around a lowrider Mooney that was blocking our intersection on the parallel runway.
