GE buys Walter Engines...

GE Aviation said today that it’s buying Walter Engines, a turboprop engine and aircraft parts maker based in Prague, the Czech Republic. The terms of the deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals, were not disclosed.

I don't know all of their product applications. But, I've read of the 601 to be a popular conversion option.

Walter engines have been popular in Experimentals for a looong time. Sounds like they're about to either get more expensive, or be discontinued.

Ehhhh -- look for more GE turbines to be built over there. They wanted a low end engine to compete in the turbine market, one supposes. Access to cheap labor, with established facilities, can't hurt.

I think it's a positive -- GE is making a bet on small turbines, such as those that power VLJs and smaller turboprops.
